Arthur E. Watts was a second generation Canadian who's parents immigrated from England. He was a barrister and a senior partner of the Wilson and Watts law firm in Brantford. He was born June 10, 1865 and died Nov. 21, 1930. He and his wife Alice raised one son and two daughters. His son Edward died while training to serve in the First World War. In 1914 they lived in a large home at 84 William St and retained the services of a domestic. He later moved to 19 Dufferin St.. Mr. Watts was a highly respected citizen who held political office and participated in several charities. The announcement of his death was front page news in The Expositor and many dignitaries offered condolences and reflections of the man's contributions to the community. He initiated the petition supporting the bylaw that would prohibit the building of a synagogue on William St.
